Interior Design: How To Make A Condo Look And Feel Homey

June 9, 2019 | Author: | Posted in Interior Design

Unlike any traditional home, a condo will not convey a homey feeling until it is fully furnished. In fact, it is just a box that looks just the same as the units next to it.

So if there’s one unique challenge that interior designers should be prepared for when designing a condo, it would be finding the best way to make this space into a warm, comfortable home. Without proper plans for the condo’s interior, it’s appearance will be like that of a rented office space instead of a home. But how does an interior designer turn a condo into a home given its compact space? Even though high-end units are bigger than typical condo units, a similarly priced single-family home is still more spacious than these units.

The first thing that an interior designer must do is to ask the occupants about their needs. Designers should prioritize their clients’ needs because the condo’s floor plan will depend on the it. Last-minute changes should be avoided because it will not only delay the project but also result in spending on additional cost.

Designers must also focus on form (aside from function) because it will determine the appearance and the atmosphere of the condo’s interior. For designers that specialize in residential designing this should no longer be a tough job especially since in this regard the requirements for designing condos and homes are the same.

And since a condo has a limited space, designers would need only to stick with the main theme and add a few basic design principles to pull together a coherent interior design.

Lastly, an interior designer should have a balance eye to incorporate everything that will make the condo look like a home. A harmonious design not only looks pleasant but also creates an illusion of continuity. And the designer is successful in this aspect if there is a smooth flow from one room to another.

For Singapore interior designers, these challenges are certainly not new to them especially those that specialize in condo interior design. It only follows that for people to find the right interior designer Singapore for their condo, they must choose one with comprehensive knowledge and experience in residential or condo design.
