Why Creating Referral Marketing Systems For Your Business is Such A Great Idea

I have a question for you. How many different systems do you have in place for getting your existing prospects and customers referring their family and friends to your business? If you don’t have at least 2 systemized methods for generating referrals, it’s time to start putting some in place.

You know yourself just how much easier it is to work with referrals, especially those who have been sent to you by a person they trust. Referrals are such great customers because you never have to ‘hard sell’ them on anything, because they already see you as a vendor they can trust. They hardly ever ask for a refund because they like you too much, they tend to complain less and are usually more flexible that clients who arrive at your business from your advertising.

Referrals are also more comfortable buying at higher prices so your margins and profits from these customers can be substantially higher. And because they see you as expert when it comes to your area of business, you are positioned as a trusted authority with the ability to influence and guide people much more effectively.

By taking the time to design and implement a referral marketing program, you could reduce your advertising substantially, while attracting more of the best customers to your business. That will help you to make more money from better clients, without working as hard as you do right now.

So what’s the best way to start generating more referrals?

The easiest way is usually to constantly be in the mind and awareness of your customers. To do that, start to get to know your customers intimately, either individually (best option) or as a group, and find out what their important issues and interests are.

Once you know what’s important to them, start sending them valuable information in the form of books, articles, reports, interviews, and videos on the topics that they’ll find most helpful to them. In other words, you want to try to actually help them – who knew!

Lots of businesses send Christmas and birthday cards, but in today’s tough and ultra-competitive economy, this really isn’t enough. You must stay in touch with your customers much more often than that, or they will forget about you and your competitors will simply vacuum they up and away from you.

If you go out of your way to show people you care about them, they will constantly have you and your good deeds at the top of their awareness. This positioning is very powerful, but hardly anybody ever gets there because they focus on selling stuff instead of helping or being of service. But since your competitors aren’t doing it either, the door open is sitting there wide open for you.

What you’ll start to see is that when people are socializing with work friends, or having a dinner party with their family, and somebody says they have a problem you can help solve, your customers will automatically think of you, and recommend you as somebody who can help.

The main thing to remember is don’t just going through the motions with this. It’s important that you are connected to your customers, and you regularly send them information that really has genuine value. If you just do that one thing for the next month and nothing else, you’ll start to get all kinds of referrals because you’ll be thought of as a very valuable person in your customer’s mind, and they will want to reciprocate by helping you out too. But why stop at one referral program, when 2, 3 or 4 are obviously going to be much better for your business. Give it a go and see for yourself.
